Living in the nation’s capital is many teachers’ dream. There is no better city for easy access to field trips and interactive learning. The plethora of free Smithsonian museums and the public transportation system make it easy to take your class on adventures around the city. There are also many entertainment venues such as the Verizon Center, and 9:30 Club, restaurants, museums, and other cultural sites. The wide array of different neighborhoods such as Adams Morgan, Georgetown, Cleveland Park and Brookland still provide a small community feel with local dog parks, farmers markets, and cafes. If you love being in the action and having a never ending list of places to explore and see, then DC is the right spot for you.
Bethesda, Potomac, and Silver Spring and other Maryland suburbs that sit right outside of DC offer easy public transportation access into the city. Downtown Bethesda is designated by Maryland as an Arts and Entertainment District; it is a vibrant area with endless places to dine, shop, and be entertained. Silver Spring is also a wonderful place to live and work, offering a diverse population and fantastic international cuisine. You are only six miles from the nation’s capital, but it can feel far away in terms of lifestyle. Take a look at just a few of the excellent schools including Bullis, Indian Creek, and Stone Ridge.
The Virginia suburbs of DC are great places to live if you want quick access to DC, but don’t want to be right in the heart of the city. Southern Teachers works with schools in Alexandria, Mclean, and Falls Church, all three of which are metro accessible to Washington DC. Each suburb has its own unique vibe and offers easy access to a plethora of shops, restaurants, and entertainment. Northern Virginia is also a great spot to live for outdoor lovers. With Great Falls close by for amazing hikes, golf courses, lakes and rivers for boating, and wineries close by, there will never be a shortage of things to do. Southern Teachers can connect you with a teaching job in great schools including Burgundy Farm, St. Luke School, Potomac School, and Maderia.
